Symposium Language and Format

  • English is the official language for the symposium.
  • The symposium will have one oral session throughout the conference. Invited keynote speakers will be given 45 minutes for their presentations; and contributed speakers will be given 30 minutes.
  • Poster sessions will be held during the conference.
  • Invited speakers include: Richard Mack (USA), Qinfeng Guo (USA), Ragan Callaway (USA), Jianhua Sun (China), Zhengyu Li (China), Ming Dong (China), Akira Miyawaki (Japan), Jong-Wook Park (South Korea), and others.

Abstract Submission

  • Abstract form with instructions can be downloaded here.
  • Authors should follow the instructions and submit the abstract by February 1st, 2004.
  • Authors will be notified no later than March 31 of 2004, regarding the acceptance and schedule for their presentation.
  • The organizing committee will publish selected papers presented at the Symposium in a special issue of the Journal of Biological Invasions.

Poster Submission

  • The size of the poster should be 120 cm (height) x 90 cm (width) and include heading, abstract, introduction, methods, results, and discussion.

    Heading
    Title, Author and Institutional Affiliation (must include email address) across the top of the poster (use a large, bold font).

    Abstract
    The abstract is a concise summary of the presented research. It should set the stage for your presentation and include the following sections: 1) What is the problem (relevance of the research), 2) What was done to solve the problem, 3) What was the outcome. Abstracts should never include a cited reference.

    Introduction
    Kept this section short to save room for results and discussion.

    Methods
    Kept this section short to save room for results and discussion.

    Results
    The results are the most important section of the poster. Clearly designed graphs and tables are critical. Captions should be self explanatory and informative.

    Discussion
    The discussion explains why the results are significant and interesting. Include figure/table references when discussing findings. Arrows can be used to refer readers to the appropriate figure.

    Acknowledgements
    The acknowledgments section is one short paragraph thanking others for assistance and listing funding sources.

    Additional Hints
    Dress appropriately. Stay alert during the poster session, and prompt visitors to enter into a discussion about your research. Design your poster to have eye-catching areas that draw the reader to important information. Fonts should never be smaller than 14 point.
